2005 Season Preview
April 2, 2005
by Frank (Mudville)

Projected AL West Finish: 2nd Place
2004 Finish: 2nd in AL West
Pitching: Another team that seems to have avoided addressing the weakness in their rotation. Pedro Martinez is top tier, but does anyone really trust the others? The loss of Ron Guidry will be a glaring blemish on management's reputation. David Cone could become a solid #2, but Monty Stratton and the rest are mop-ups at best. The relievers might just as well not bother leaving the warmth of the bullpen heaters on cold days.
Offense: Wow! Talk about platooning to the death. It's worked before, but it don't bet your house in this case. Mike Schmidt and Robin Yount are the only two players who are slated to face both righties and lefties. Luis Gonzalez and Manny Ramirez will split duties in LF. Together they should provide for plenty of excitement. The rest are mainly journeymen who have to be tested over a full season.
Outlook: This team's approach will make it an interesting phenomenon to watch. Owner Jeff Nyveen has always been successful so he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but it could get so ugly that the Crips will become the Bloods.
