AimÈe & Jaguar (1999)

Really takes you back. Make-up, costuming, and set-design are top-notch. All very authentic. Itís hard to tell when the movie was made, which is the sign of a successful period piece. Another thing that takes you back is seeing mediocre-looking women playing confident, desirable characters. The present-day standard is to cast a mediocre-looking person (if they can even get a role) today as the ìuglyî or ìhomelyî one.
Giving Ilse the voiceover in what is clearly an ensemble piece seems awkward. Maria Schrader is truly magnetic as Felice. I almost think this should have been her story.
Effects are used sparingly and effectively.
