An isolated national park with red dust and lots of big holes in the ground.

Karijini is filled with strenuous and dangerous hikes.

Here's me in front of Dale's Gorge.

Phil and his shit-eating grin in Dale's Gorge.

The colors of Karijini.

A bull paws the ground as we drive past. Chris got out of the truck to taunt it.

The cutest joey picture ever.

Chris makes damper (traditional outback bread) over the campfire.

The start of the Miracle Mile. From left: Chris (Australian, our guide), Phil (Scottish), Helen (English), me, and Nick (English). Everyone else was too chickenshit to do the hike.

Cassia Fistula, the Golden Shower.

At night, there was total darkness in the Karijini. At our campsite, I set up my camera to try and photograph the magnificent stars above. This shot took about 90 minutes, just after the sun set. Light from the bus illuminates the tree in the foreground. You can see the a shooting star just to the right of the tree and the shadow from my camera in the grass at the bottom.

I took this one next. The battery in my camera died at some point during the exposure, but I'm guessing that since the stars made about 1/6 of a circle in the sky, the exposure lasted 1/6 x 24 hours = 4 hours. Click

Nick removes spoiled tomatoes from the ice box. And yes, the girls were dirty.

The open road. A chemical fire rages in the distance.

This is what a menu at an outback roadhouse looks like.

A bushfire creates a wall of smoke just in front of us on the way to Port Hedland. The land on either side of us has been completely burnt away.
