It's not an assumption. I was there. It is generalizing, but seeing the most accessible area the best I can do if I have 3 hours to kill in a foreign country. If you came to Arlington and thought it was the most disgusting place in the world, I wouldn't care. I find that Tijuanians (is that the right word?) are very sensitive about the reputation of their town. Yours is not the first letter I've gotten about this...
Mexican on March 13, 2005 at 11:54 AM ESTOf course you should share your experiences, but saying "The dirtiest and most disgusting place in the world". Isn't that an assumption and generalizing? Well, but of course i'll help you, not show you, where can you go in Tijuana and how to apreciate an other culture.
Jeff on March 6, 2005 at 11:05 PM ESTMexican -
Are you suggesting that I should not share my first-hand experiences of the places that I visit? And what assumptions did I make?
Mexican on March 5, 2005 at 7:09 PM ESTI just read about yout trip to tijuana, and i don't want to read about the other trips. I can see that you travel without getting to know the real city and the real culture. Hey!The place where you went in Tijuana exists because people like you, coming from United States, go to those kind of places where the majority of the people are American tourists. It is very uneducated and uncultural to say that a city such witouht really getting to know it. So you know, av. Revolucion is not only Tijuana! So, I just want to give an advice, when you travel, go where local people go, not places like that, or even worst Strip clubs, which also exist in many American cities in very dirty and smelly neighborhoods.
Mexican on March 5, 2005 at 7:08 PM ESTVery bad comments, very genaralizing statements, very sad to see people generalizing and making wrong assumptions without knowledge.

~shea on July 27, 2004 at 2:50 AM ESTHey Jeff.. I just wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed your journals from your trip to OZ and NZ etc. I stumbled across it the other night browsing some info. I was looking for on Kakadu. I have been reading it every night... and laughing, as I can relate to many of your stories and descriptions of your backpacking experience. Feeling so tired cuz your on sensory overload!! I travelled with my best friend in June-Aug. in 2001 to OZ (Outback to east coast), NZ (north & south islands) and also Bali. It was a trip of a lifetime that I'll never forget!! I daydream of moving there. I might go back this next year and see Perth since I never made it to W.A. But most of the places you went I was there, so I could totally relate and loved rememebering all the stuff we saw and did! I wrote a journal and took 46 roles of film but your writing was very descriptive!! I was so sorry to read the part when your pics didn't make it back to your home. Seems though you have many good friends that helped you out with recapturing some good times! In closing...I think what I liked best was your feeling on the Aussie way of life, which makes it so appealing to think about living there--- I always describe in a little different words to people I meet that have never been there sort of a similar feeling.. That was that "Australians tend to do just enough to be happy and support themselves, they're not out to be the richest or the best--no obsession with fame and glory....they have a laid back attitude and lifestylye" (modified version of your words)....and that's what truly makes the journey over there a soul rejuvenation---at least it was for me... Anyway..thanks for putting your scrapbook on the web--It was super cool!!!! and heaps of fun to read!!!! Ooroo!! Did you ever hear any of the tour guides use that expression? We had a crazy-fun tour guide in Kakadu...named "Bushie". Hey....with that goodnite.. I'm tired it's almost 4 in the mornin'

Armin Theissen on November 14, 2003 at 3:28 AM ESTHi, I just enjoyed your photographs on Fiji and Hawaii - I've been at some places you've been. For instance the Nadi Sunseekers Hotel. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience there (the mouse...). I stayed there for a couple of nights and had a great time. Sure, no TV etc, but neither mice. Of course the occasional mosquitos, but geckos munching on them, so... Overall the mood there was great. It either became bad or you had bad luck... And funny, I also stayed at the Banana Bungalow in Waikiki... For my pics and diary see http://www.arm.ac.uk/~ath/fiji/index.html and http://www.arm.ac.uk/~madj/gallery/hawaii2002 cheers armin

Leontine on October 11, 2003 at 7:01 AM ESTHiya, Great site! I'm leaving for Oz in 2 weeks. Can't wait to get back there!
Jason on September 20, 2003 at 3:11 PM ESTJeff, I'm impressed with all the work and creativity you put into your travel journals. I just so happened to stumble across this website and I'm pleased I did. You brought back many good memories for me. I played baseball for a few years down in Adelaide and loved every minute of it. My team also got a chance to stay in Sydney for 6 months. You really captured the feel of the place. This all took place back in 1992. It seems like a lot has changed since then. I am looking forward to your next adventure. If you ever get out to Los Angeles don't hesitate to look me up. It would be a pleasure for my girlfriend and myself to host you. Take care and all the best.
joe barragan on September 8, 2003 at 10:10 AM ESTabout your tijuana trip we are having a hard time fixing our city but we are doing good, but stupid coments like the ones you make of our city dont help so next time you find a city you dont like just shut up and go some place you like o and one more thing you just visited strip clubs with your girl, get a brain check dude, ther is more to tijuana what did you want in a strip club a red carpet. o and you say the mexican patrol has a stupid smile dude at least they are not racist like the u.s. patrol, keep living you dream trip full o and keep of mexico.
Greg on August 13, 2003 at 8:03 AM ESTLike all Aussies, I enjoyed reading about Australia. I've just come back to Oz after 4 years living in Tokyo and travelling around Asia. Major culture shock and depression to be back home. Perhaps I'll backpack around Oz !? I suggest that you live in another country. It's a different experience to travelling. A non- English speaking country. It's weird how you become fluent in another language before you know it. If You have a Canadain passport you can do a working holiday to France or Japan (or others) easily. I REALLY recommend Japan.
Clare on July 18, 2003 at 2:16 PM ESTLove the site. You've got some great photo's. Keep it up.
Bonnie on July 17, 2003 at 6:39 PM ESTVery enoyable and you have some really good pictures--even though I've seen a lot of these places myself, your pictures make me want to return.
